Yoga Teacher Training FaQ

Planning a Yoga Teacher Training in India naturally comes with many questions; when to arrive, what to bring, airport transfers, accommodation, food, laundry, days off, certification and much more.

We have answered the questions we are most often asked by our students, so you can prepare for your journey to Samyak with greater clarity and spend less time worrying about the practical details.

If you are already registered for a training, we recommend going through this page before planning your travel.

Arrival & Departure

When should I arrive at Samyak?

For our residential Yoga Teacher Training courses, you are expected to arrive at Samyak by lunchtime on the 3rd, which is the official arrival day. This gives you enough time to settle into your room, meet the community and be ready for the opening programme and orientation.

Please plan your flights and travel accordingly so that you can reach the campus on time.

Can I arrive one or two days before the training?

Yes. If you are travelling internationally or would simply like some time to rest before the training begins, you may arrive at Samyak a day or two earlier, subject to room availability.

Additional accommodation charges apply for early arrival. Please contact us in advance before booking your travel so that we can confirm the availability of your room.

Can I arrive after the training has started?

We strongly recommend planning your journey carefully so that you are at Samyak by lunchtime on the official arrival day.

The opening sessions, orientation and beginning of the training are an important part of the course, and arriving late also affects the continuity of your learning. Therefore, joining the training after it has begun is not permitted.

Can I stay at Samyak after completing the training?

Yes, depending on room availability and the schedule of upcoming programmes, it may be possible to stay for a few additional days after your training, though please note that it may not be the same accommodation as well.

Some students choose this time simply to rest after an intensive month, explore Mysore, or experience Ayurveda consultations and treatments before continuing their journey.

Please check with us in advance, as additional accommodation charges apply and availability cannot always be guaranteed.

When should I plan my departure?

The training concludes with the Deekshānta Ceremony on the final morning, the 28th, at 10:00 AM. As this ceremony is an important part of completing the training, you will not be able to leave on the evening of the 27th or early morning of the 28th.

If you are flying from Bengaluru International Airport, please book your departure flight for after 5:00 PM (17:00) on the 28th, allowing sufficient time for the journey to Bengaluru, airport check-in, security and other formalities.

Airport Transfer & Getting to Samyak

Which airport should I fly to?

For international and most domestic travellers, Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru (BLR) is the most convenient airport for reaching Samyak. From Bengaluru Airport, the journey to Samyak usually takes approximately 3-4 hours, depending on traffic.

How and when should I submit my flight details?

Once your travel plans are confirmed, we will provide you with a link to submit your arrival details.

You will be asked to provide your flight name and number (arriving at the bangalore airport), date and time of your arrival, so that we can coordinate your transfer.

You are welcome to book your flights well in advance, but there is no need to send us your flight details several months beforehand. We will request you a month before the training begins

Does Samyak arrange airport pickup from Bengaluru International Airport?

Yes. We arrange the airport transfer from Bengaluru International Airport (BLR) to Samyak.

You will receive the driver details a few hours before your arrival at the airport.

Please note: This transfer service is specifically for transportation to Samyak and cannot be used for transportation to hotels, hostels or other destinations in Bengaluru or Mysore.

Where will the driver meet me at Bengaluru Airport?

Your driver will meet you at the designated meeting point outside the arrivals area.

Please make sure the WhatsApp number you provide to us is active while travelling, as this makes communication much easier if you or the driver need to contact each other.

What happens if my flight is delayed?

Flight delays happen, so there is no need to worry. If your arrival time changes significantly, please inform us as soon as you have updated information.

We will coordinate with the driver and make the necessary adjustments wherever reasonably possible.

Can Samyak pick me up from the airport and drop me somewhere else?

Our organised airport transfer is available only from Bengaluru International Airport directly to Samyak.

If you are planning to spend a few days in Bengaluru, Mysore or elsewhere before coming to Samyak, you will need to arrange that journey independently and then travel to Samyak on the arrival day.

Can Samyak arrange transportation back to Bengaluru Airport after the training?

Yes. If you would like transportation to Bengaluru International Airport after completing your training, we can help arrange a taxi for you.

Return transportation is organised separately and is subject to the applicable taxi charges. Students travelling at similar times may also be able to share transportation where practical.

How far is Samyak from Bengaluru Airport and Mysore?

Samyak is located near Srirangapatna, in the Mysore region of Karnataka.

The journey from Bengaluru International Airport generally takes around 2-3 hours by road, depending on traffic.

Mysore is 20 mins away from Samyak Yoga, making it easy to visit before or after your training if you would like to spend some additional time exploring the city.

Accommodation at Samyak

What accommodation options are available?

Our Yoga Teacher Training is fully residential, and you can choose between Private Room and Twin-Sharing Room accommodation, subject to availability.

Both options are located within the Samyak campus, allowing you to fully participate in the daily rhythm of the Gurukula without having to travel between accommodation and classes.

How are roommates allocated in Twin-Sharing Rooms?

Twin-Sharing Rooms are generally allocated to students of the same gender.

If two students already know each other and would like to share a room, you may request this in advance and we will accommodate the request wherever possible.

Can my spouse, partner or companion stay with me without joining the training?

Yes. A spouse, partner or companion who is not participating in the Teacher Training may stay with you in a Private Room, subject to prior approval and availability. Read Companion Wellness Stay

They will not be able to participate in the Teacher Training classes, but they can enjoy their stay at Samyak and may choose to have an Ayurveda consultation, treatments or other available wellness experiences during their time here.

Additional accommodation and meal charges will apply.

Are bed linen and towels provided?

Yes. Bed linen and towels are provided, so you do not need to carry these with you unless you personally prefer to use your own.

Is Wi-Fi available?

Yes, Wi-Fi is available on campus.

However, the Teacher Training is also an opportunity to step away from some of the distractions of everyday life. We encourage students to use their online time mindfully, particularly during classes, meals and community activities.

Is there a safe place to keep passports and valuables?

We recommend keeping passports, money and other valuables securely stored in your room and carrying only what you need during the day.

Please avoid bringing unnecessary valuables to the training. Samyak cannot take responsibility for personal belongings that are lost or misplaced during your stay.

What is the difference between a Private and Twin-Sharing Room?

A Private Room gives you your own personal space throughout the training and is a good choice if you value privacy and quiet time after a full day of study and practice.

A Twin-Sharing Room is shared with one other participant and is a more economical option. It can also be a lovely part of the residential experience, as many students form close friendships during their month together.

The training, food and learning experience remain the same regardless of the room category you choose.

Can couples share a room?

Yes. If you are both participating in the training, couples may stay together by choosing a Private Room, subject to availability.

Please mention this while registering so that we can arrange the accommodation accordingly.

What facilities are provided in the rooms?

Our rooms are designed to be simple, comfortable and suitable for a month of residential study.

Rooms include the essential furniture and facilities needed for your stay, along with an attached bathroom. The intention is to provide a comfortable personal space where you can rest, study and recharge between the different parts of your training day.

Is hot water available?

Yes. Hot water is available for bathing.

As we live and study together in a residential environment, we encourage everyone to use water and other resources mindfully.

Are the rooms cleaned during the training?

Yes. Housekeeping is provided once a week during your stay. The house keeping staff will replace the linen, clean the washrooms and make it ready again.

At the same time, we ask students to take responsibility for keeping their personal space reasonably clean and organised every day. Gurukula life is also about learning to live together with awareness and responsibility.

Can I change my room after arriving?

Room allocations are prepared before the training according to registrations and availability, so changing rooms after arrival may not always be possible.

If there is a genuine concern with your accommodation, please speak with our team and we will do our best to find an appropriate solution.

Food & Daily Living

What kind of food is served at Samyak?

We serve freshly prepared vegetarian meals three times a day throughout the training. The food is simple, nourishing and prepared to support your Yoga practice and the intensity of the training.

Our approach is influenced by both Yoga and Ayurveda, with an emphasis on wholesome, predominantly Indian meals rather than restaurant-style food.

Can you accommodate vegan and gluten-free diets?

Yes. We can accommodate vegan and gluten-free diets.

Please inform us about your dietary requirements before arriving so that our kitchen team can prepare accordingly.

Are all meals vegetarian?

Yes. Samyak is a vegetarian campus, and all meals served during the Yoga Teacher Training are vegetarian.

We do not serve meat, fish, eggs or alcohol on campus.

What if I have a food allergy or intolerance?

Please inform us in advance about any food allergies or significant intolerances, particularly if there is a risk of a serious allergic reaction.

While our kitchen team will do its best to accommodate reasonable dietary requirements, our meals are prepared in a shared kitchen and we cannot guarantee a completely allergen-free environment.

Do you use onion and garlic in the food?

Our regular Yoga Teacher Training meals are prepared without onion and garlic, following the principles of a simple, sattvic diet.

The intention is not to impose a particular diet, but to experience how food can support practice, digestion and the overall rhythm of a yogic lifestyle.

Is safe drinking water available?

Yes. Filtered drinking water is available on campus, and students can refill their bottles throughout the day.

We recommend bringing a reusable water bottle rather than purchasing disposable plastic bottles during your stay.

Are tea and coffee available?

Herbal drinks and tea are available at appropriate times during the day.

As the training is also an opportunity to observe our everyday habits, we encourage students to gradually reduce excessive dependence on coffee and other stimulants during their stay.

Are meals provided on days off?

Yes. Food continues to be available for students staying on campus during the scheduled days off.

The meal arrangements may be simpler than on regular training days, allowing both students and our kitchen team a slightly lighter day.

Is laundry available during the training?

Yes. Laundry facilities/services are available during your stay, and we will explain the practical arrangements after you arrive.

As you will be practising every day, we recommend bringing enough comfortable Yoga clothing to manage your practice and laundry comfortably throughout the week.

Can I order or bring outside food?

Your accommodation includes three meals a day, so in most cases there is no need to order additional food.

We encourage students to experience the food and daily routine provided during the training rather than regularly ordering meals from outside. If you have a particular dietary or health-related concern, please speak with us so that we can understand how best to support you.

What does a typical day at Samyak look like?

Yes, during scheduled days off only. During training days, you won't be able to go out of the campus, even during the free time.

Can I use my phone during the training?

Yes, but we encourage mindful use of phones and social media. Phones should remain away during classes, practice sessions, meals and other shared activities unless specifically required.

Can I take photographs or videos during the training?

Yes, you are welcome to capture memories during appropriate times, while respecting the privacy and comfort of other students. Photography and filming should never interrupt classes or practice.

Can I record the classes?

Audio or video recording of complete classes is not permitted unless specifically authorised by the teacher. Short photographs or clips may occasionally be permitted, and we also share selected learning resources and recordings through Samyak Kulam.

Classes, Attendance & Assessment

Is attendance compulsory?

Yes. This is an intensive residential Teacher Training, and attendance at all scheduled sessions is required for certification.

What happens if I miss a session?

We understand that illness or genuine situations can arise. However, if you miss more than three individual sessions, you may receive a Certificate of Participation instead of the Yoga Teacher Training Certificate.

How much teaching practice is included?

Teaching begins gradually during the training, starting with smaller exercises and progressing towards leading longer sessions. The intention is not only to deepen your Yoga practice, but to prepare you to actually teach Yoga with confidence and clarity.

Are there examinations or assessments?

Yes. Your progress is assessed through practical teaching, assignments, participation and final assessments. These help us ensure that you have developed the knowledge and skills expected of a Yoga teacher.

Is there homework or self-study?

Yes. There will be reading, preparation, assignments and teaching practice outside the scheduled classes. However, we structure these carefully alongside the intensity of the daily programme.

Does attending the entire course automatically guarantee certification?

No. Attendance alone does not guarantee certification. You are expected to participate sincerely, complete the required assignments and assessments, and demonstrate an appropriate level of understanding and teaching ability.

If additional work is needed, you will have an opportunity to complete the required assignments or assessments later to become eligible for the Yoga Teacher Training Certificate.

Health, Injuries & Your Practice

Can I join if I have an existing injury or medical condition?

In many cases, yes, depending on the condition and its severity. Please inform us before registering so that we can understand your situation and advise whether the intensive nature of the training is appropriate for you.

Can the practice be modified for injuries or physical limitations?

Where appropriate, our teachers can suggest modifications and alternatives. However, a Teacher Training is a group programme and cannot provide the same level of individual attention as therapeutic or private Yoga sessions.

What happens if I become unwell during the training?

Please inform our team immediately. We will help you rest, modify your participation where appropriate, and assist you in accessing nearby medical care if required, using our therapists and nurses from 'Samyak Ayurveda'

Can I practise during menstruation?

Yes. Menstruation does not prevent you from participating in the training. We recommend modifying the practice when needed and avoiding inversions during menstruation.

Can I join during pregnancy or soon after childbirth?

Pregnancy and the postnatal period require individual consideration. Please contact us before registering with relevant details so that we can advise whether joining an intensive Teacher Training at that stage would be appropriate.

Ayurveda During Your Training

Is Ayurveda included in the Yoga Teacher Training?

Yes. You will be introduced to the fundamental principles of Ayurveda and their relevance to Yoga teachers, including constitution (Vata, Pitta and Kapha), food, daily routines and lifestyle.

Can I have an individual Ayurveda consultation?

Yes. You may book a personal consultation with Dr. Meghana, our Ayurveda physician, during your stay to better understand your constitution, lifestyle and individual needs.

Can I receive Ayurveda treatments during the training?

Yes, depending on your schedule and the availability of our Ayurveda team. Treatments such as Abhyanga and other therapies can be arranged during suitable free periods without interfering with your training sessions.

Can my companion receive Ayurveda treatments?

Yes. A spouse or companion staying with you can book an Ayurveda consultation and treatments even if they are not participating in the Yoga Teacher Training.

Payments, Cancellation & Transfers

When should I pay the remaining course fee?

Your Registration Fee secures your place in the training. You will receive an invoice a month before the training begins to complete the remaining balance payment.

What happens if I need to cancel?

Refund eligibility depends on how far in advance you cancel. Cancellations made more than 60 days before the training may be eligible for a refund, subject to applicable deductions. No refund is available within the final 60 days.

Can I postpone my training?

Yes. A transfer to a future training may be requested at least 30 days before the training begins, subject to the applicable transfer fee and any difference in the course fee.

Within the final 30 days, transfers are generally not permitted except in the case of a documented genuine medical emergency with a transfer fee.

Where can I find the complete cancellation and transfer conditions?

Please read our Cancellation, Refund & Transfer Policy before registering. It explains refund eligibility, transfer fees, medical-emergency exceptions, course-fee differences and other applicable conditions.

Payments, Cancellation & Transfers

Is Samyak registered with Yoga Alliance?

Yes. Samyak Yoga is one of the oldest Yoga schools to be registered with Yoga Alliance and all our courses meet the educational requirements for RYT 200/ RYT 300 and other registration.

Is certification automatically guaranteed?

No. Certification requires regular attendance, active participation, completion of assignments and assessments, and demonstrating the knowledge and teaching skills expected from a Yoga teacher.

If you miss more than three individual sessions or do not complete the required assessments, you may initially receive a Certificate of Participation and complete the pending requirements later.

What certificate will I receive?

Upon successfully completing the training, you will receive a 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training Certificate from Samyak Yoga during the Deekshānta Ceremony on the final day.

How do I become an RYT 200 with Yoga Alliance?

After receiving your Samyak Yoga certificate, you can apply directly to Yoga Alliance to register as an RYT 200 (Registered Yoga Teacher). Yoga Alliance registration is optional and is completed separately by the student.

Can I teach internationally after completing the training?

Your Samyak Yoga certificate demonstrates that you have successfully completed a 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training. Requirements for teaching Yoga can differ between countries, studios and employers, so we recommend checking any local requirements where you intend to teach.

After Your Teacher Training

What support will I receive after graduation?

Your learning with Samyak does not end when you receive your certificate. You can continue practising, studying and staying connected with our teachers and community through Samyak Kulam and our continuing education programmes.

Will I continue to have access to Samyak Kulam?

Yes. Samyak Kulam provides ongoing access to practice classes, philosophy discussions, pranayama, meditation, chanting, recordings and other learning resources to support both your personal practice and your journey as a teacher.

Can I return to Samyak after completing my training?

Absolutely. Our alumni are always welcome to return to the Gurukula for a minimum stay of 7 days, join the morning practices, reconnect with the community and continue their studies through our monthly study themes.

How can I continue learning with Samyak?

You can continue through Samyak Kulam, return to Samyak for practice and study, participate in specialised programmes and workshops, or eventually join our 300-Hour Advanced Yoga Teacher Training. The intention is to provide a path for continued learning rather than making the certificate the end of your Yoga education.

When should I consider a 300-Hour Yoga Teacher Training?

The 300-Hour training is designed for teachers who have already completed a 200-Hour training and want to deepen their practice, knowledge and teaching skills. There is no need to rush into it - spending time practising and teaching after your 200-Hour training can make the advanced training considerably more meaningful.
